Lassus´s elegant but intense setting of Petrarch´s S´una fede amororsa was first printed in Sex cantiones latinae, adjuncto dialogo ..., published in Munich by Adam Berg in 1573; it also appeared in other collections, including the source for the present transcription, Cardane´s Dialoghi musicali di diversi eccelentissimi aittori of 1590. In this edition the original note values have been retained. A few editorial accidentals appear in the usual way, printed small above the stave, applying to the one note only. I am grateful to Peggy Forsyth for translating the text of this work.
