A Sad Paven for These Distracted Tymes (1649) was a keyboard piece written two weeks after the beheading of Charles II of England, and it is arranged here for TrTrTB/TrTTB viols. The companion piece is a funeral anthem: I heard a Voice, which comes from Tomkins' Musica deo Sacra, a posthumous publication in 1668.
