The cover (part of Visscher's panorama of London: drawn 1600, publ. 1616) show's Cranford's place of employment, St. Paul's Cathedral as it was before the fire of 1666, with its 400 foot nave dominating the north bank of "Thamesis"; and the two theaters on the south bank. His music often reflects this dichotomy of sacred and secular, although these fantasias and In nomine (2 trebles, 2 tenors and bass) are more conventional than those for 3,4 and 6 viols.
