2 Motets from the Rusconi Codex

for 4 voices or instruments.
The Rusconi Codex (Bologna, Civico Museo Bibliografico Musicale, MS Q. 19) is a large collection of motets written probably in Bologna or Ferrara around 1515; it is available in the series Renaissance Music in Facsimile, published by Garland Press.
Jean Mouton´s Ave Maria contains a canon by inversion between the tenor and bassus, though both parts are written out in full in the source. Canon was one of Mouton´s strong points: there are some attractive double canons by him in the Antico print of 1520 that consists entirely of such pieces, the Motetti novi e chanzoni franciose a quattro sopra doi (complete edition in preparation in our Renaissance Music Prints series).
In this edition the original note values have been halved throughout. Editorial accidentals are printed small above the stave, applying to the one note only.
