Mico, Richard: 2 Pavans

for 4 instruments.

Richard Mico (c. 1590-1661) was born into a family that was originally French (Micault). He seems to have spent most of his working life under the patronage of one Lord Petre, who had a country house in Essex (Thorndon Hall). Thirty-two fantasies in from two to five parts have survived, and seven mostly very fine pavans.
These two pieces are taken from MS 1197 of the Royal College of Music, London, an elegant set of partbooks which may have been written out by the composer himself The original note values have been retained.
