These two canzoni da sonar are taken from Rognoni Taeggio´s Canzoni a 4 & 8 voci of 1605 a collection that has already been mined for our series; all four of the 8-part works have been included (EML 160, 202, 226, 262). In the present rather more modest works we still find the lively mind of a skilled contrapuntalist at work.
The original note values have been retained throughout. A few editorial accidentals appear in the usual way, printed small above the stave: these apply to the one note only; the original accidentals are taken as applying to the whole bar, for the stake of convenience.
